FIXING YOUR FOUNDATION


Twenty years ago I started a small company to fix wet/damp basements.  It's simple enough: excavate, apply a waterproof membrane, make sure the Big O is where it should be and properly connected to something, insulate and backfill with clean stone.  Such a system has to work every time; and it has been the Code in Ontario since 1975.  "Sec. 9.13.1.1: Required Waterproofing: Where hydrostatic conditions (pressure caused by standing water) occur, walls below grade and floor on ground shall be waterproofed."  The problem is that not one of Ontario's 445 Chief Building Official believe "hydrostatic conditions occur".
